WHEN it's six years between haircuts, get the best barber around.
World shearing champion David Fagan has been recruited to do the job on Shrek, the sheep who avoided his annual date with the clippers by becoming a hermit in hills above Bendigo Station in Central Otago.
The Te Kuiti shearer, who'll use his clippers to fleece Shrek of 27kg of wool, says it won't be easy.
``For a start it's a merino, and merinos have fine fleece and loose skin," Fagan said.
``You've got to be pretty careful with it to just open up the fleece of that length. It's going to be hard enough not to cut it."
The five-time world champion, who has made his name shearing sheep quicker than anyone, says he won't be showing his speed on Shrek.
Fagan will undertake the big shear in front of TV cameras in Queenstown on Wednesday.
